- "IT security specialists Imerja expressed their delight at winning the SME Business of the Year at the Bolton and Bury Business Awards.

In the space of four years the firm has grown from an idea formed between several friends to a business employing 28 staff and bringing in revenues of £2.3 million.

Ian Jackson, managing director of Imerja, said: "It's a fantastic accolade, but we are just the frontmen. We couldn't have done any of this without the rest of our team. Four friends are the core of the company, but we have to thank our people that we trust to do a good job and who have trusted us to bring the company to where it is today."

He added: "We don't make gadgets and we don't make widgets, so the success is purely down to the quality of our staff."

Mark Evans, marketing director of Imerja, said: "We really didn't expect this, especially when you see the competition. The other two shortlisted IT firms are very good businesses, so this win will resonate through the whole company and the businesses we work with."

The company's total solutions approach to IT security has seen a rapid expansion with revenues forecast to grow to £5.6 million within two years."
